Gerald Ariston Doton Corporal
Assistant Dean of Student Engagement
As Assistant Dean of Student Engagement, Gerald focuses on advocating for and enriching the experience for all Albers students.
Biography
Gerald Corporal (he/him/his) serves as Assistant Dean of Student Engagement for the Albers School of Business and Economics. In this role, he facilitates student life for all undergraduate and graduate students, including advocating for Albers student clubs, managing the New Student Mentor program, and stewarding initiatives aimed at student success. Gerald also serves as Director of the Pre-College Summer Business Institute and is an adjunct faculty member. Gerald recently earned his doctorate, and his dissertation explored Pilipinx-Americans in U.S. higher education. His research interests are on student engagement and sense of belonging in postsecondary education, and examining race, ethnicity, and other social identities using Critical Theory.
Born in Guam and having lived around the world, Gerald graduated from River Ridge High School in Lacey, WA before attending the University of Washington, Seattle to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Cinema Studies and Communication. Gerald then relocated to Los Angeles, CA for over 10 years. He earned his Master of Education in Postsecondary Administration and Student Affairs at the University of Southern California, and worked as a professional Academic Advisor and then Career Services Advisor. He then transitioned to the University of California, Los Angeles, serving as an Associate Director of Partnership UCLA, and then Director of Alumni Career Engagement with the UCLA Alumni Association. He returned to Seattle in 2022 to begin his doctoral program and joining ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½.
Gerald is also involved with NASPA-Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, and has held multiple roles with the National Leadership Team of the Asian Pacific Islander Knowledge Community, as well as serving on the planning committee for Asian Pacific Islanders Promoting Educational eXcellence (APPEX) summits. During his free time, he enjoys traveling, running, and photography as hobbies.
